The Kwantlen St. Farmers Market has a number of opportunities for sponsorship and appreciates any support we receive from our local community. Working with sponsors allows us to bring even more unique programming to the market and make the market even more vibrant.
We are always looking for community groups to sponsor events at the farmers market, our music stage or children’s booth, but if you have another idea please contact us we’re always looking for new ways to work together. Details of our sponsorship programs are outlined below.
Food Nutrition Coupon Program
The Kwantlen St. Farmers Market has applied to participate in the Food Nutrition Coupon program. This healthy eating initiative enables local organizations who work with lower-income families, students, and seniors to give participants of their food programs coupons which can be redeemed at farmers markets for fresh produce, dairy, eggs, meat and cheese. Each participant is eligible to receive up to $15 of coupons per week, approximately $250 over the course of the market season. The FNCP program has been running through the BC Association of Farmers Markets and Healthy Families BC for 9 seasons and successfully provides fresh food for over 3,000 BC households in 48 communities.
The Kwantlen Student Association runs an emergency food bank for student members in need, and it is our hope that these students will be able to access the FNCP program and be able to purchase produce and fresh food at our farmers market in Richmond.
The Kwantlen St. Farmers Market is creating a fund to subsidize the FNCP program coupons so students in need can receive benefits. Research in BC and the USA have demonstrated the funds led to busier farmers markets, additional demand for produce, and that local economies benefit from the additional economic stimulus*.
Coupons may be redeemed only for fresh, local fruits and vegetables, meat and eggs. We are looking to provide funds for approximately 40 qualifying students, totaling $10,000.
